Kitchen design trends for 2020

One of the many great aspects of buying one of the new homes in Chesterfield VA from LifeStyle Home Builders is the chance to customize some elements. For example, kitchens are a place where we spend a lot of time — cooking and socializing — so it’s important to have a room that is fun and functional. With now being a great time to purchase a new home, while mortgage rates are low, it’s also a good time to start thinking about how you want your kitchen to look. Some of the hot kitchen trends for 2020 may be just right for you.

Completely white kitchens are losing their lustre — literally — so more people are looking to incorporate some color back in to reduce the hardcore cleaning needed to maintain a white kitchen. Still, you don’t want a dark kitchen, so it’s important to balance the light and the dark. The latest kitchen trends sees darker cabinets, in shades of blues and greens ranging from navy blue to spring green.

Shaker-style cabinets are also popular for their clean lines, while still adding a touch of warmth and personality. Look to mix materials, such as Shaker wood cabinets with sleek metal handles in brushed brass. The minimalism of the combination is a great way to move away from molding detail and anything too ornate. To add to the inviting vibe of the latest kitchens, more wood is being incorporated, in open shelving, pull-outs, and small sections of butcher-block counters.

When it comes to the rest of the counters, granite still remains popular, though some are shifting away, due to the difficulty in maintaining granite. Composite quartz, which is more durable, is popping up in kitchens, as is porcelain, which is strong, as well as typically stain-, heat- and bacteria-resistant.

Stainless steel appliances remain popular, but plenty of designers and homeowners are turning to other options that aren’t such fingerprint magnets. An alternative is black stainless steel, but some owners are choosing to embrace color. Particularly if you still want a lighter, whiter kitchen, colorful appliances can be just the way to break up all of that white and add some liveliness to your kitchen. Primary colors are particularly on trend these days.

Finally, when it comes to floors, many homeowners are increasingly using wood floors throughout their open-plan homes, including the kitchen. To help the open space flow more evenly, using wood throughout makes the shift from space to space feel seamless. Although tile may be easier to maintain and is less susceptible to water, you still end up with grout that needs cleaning. Wood floors add a warmth and sense of comfort and can be protected and accented with kitchen rugs in strategic spots.

If you’re in the building stage of one of the homes in Chesterfield VA, LifeStyle Home Builders has an excellent design studio that can help you incorporate the latest trends, while also making sure the kitchen and the rest of your home reflects you and your tastes.
