Our Blog

Every year, designers and design companies come up with a list of design colors and trends that are likely to make a regular appearance in the new year. As always, when designing your new homes in Midlothian VA, you can explore these new design trends and see what works best for your home and your tastes. Mix and match or just focus one one of two elements. The choice ultimately comes down to what will make you feel most comfortable in your new home.

The cooler whites and grays are giving way to warmer tones in 2024. While bolder colors are likely to be big, that doesn’t mean dark or garish. You can also pair some of these bolder colors with white or cream neutrals to help balance the impact. Warm peach, deep forest green, and even gray-black colors are among some of this year’s bold colors, but they provide leeway in how and how much you use them. A warm peach can be used to warm up a room and can be complemented with light neutrals or bold reds, depending on your style. The dark green can be used on a built-in bookcase or as a focal sofa, paired with warm, light-colored woods. Even gray-black can be used in a bedroom with cream accents for an inviting and cozy place to sleep or it can be used as an accent wall in a living room, serving as an excellent backdrop for bold, vivid paintings.

That said, blue remains a classic, no matter what color you choose. The difference for 2024 is choosing watery blues – even darker ones – rather than dark navy blues. In addition, you’ll see a mix of mid to light blues, often paired together for visual interest, such as lighter bathroom cabinets against darker walls, with white or cream accents.

While you might choose some bold options for walls and furniture that can be altered in the future, many home buyers are choosing traditional features that are timeless and can serve as a quiet luxury accompaniment to bolder colors and decorative pieces. However, timeless doesn’t mean dull; you’re likely to find secret power outlets, sustainable features, performance materials, and upgraded lighting that help spaces meet contemporary needs.

Finally, look for interesting textures and patterns. Herringbone is one of those timeless classics, but consider using them in new directions, such as diagonally or vertically, instead of the traditional horizontal. Similarly, vertical fluting in sideboards, vanities, and cabinetry adds texture and visual interest to a room.

These are just a few of the likely design trends for 2024. When designing your new homes in Midlothian VA, explore some of the newest trends and see what will fit best in your new home while suiting your personal tastes. Let our design expert make some suggestions. You’ll be surprised at how it can really enhance your brand new home.
