Tile Trends You Will See in 2019

When choosing some of the finishing touches of your LifeStyle homes in Chesterfield VA, consider the array of tile options available for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, laundry rooms, and anywhere you may want to include tile. From small, decorative patterns to large marble tiles and everything in between, here are some of the biggest tile trends you’ll find this year.

Tile is incredibly versatile, ranging from the most basic of squares and rectangles to ceramic planks that actually look like real wood. In fact, the realistic wood tiles are popping up everywhere this year, giving you the convenience and longevity of tile, but the warmer appearance of wood. The tiles even come in long planks to mimic the appearance of wood planks and many include the kinds of natural imperfections you’d find in wood, further enhancing the realism. Plus, there are numerous colors and finishes to suit any design plan.

Darker colors are also making a big splash in the tile world these days. Basalt, which comes in various shades of grey, has a slightly rough texture adding to the interest, just as the grains in the wood tiles do. Basalt also has natural gradations in color and tone that add further dimension and interest. Alternatively, dark marble with white veining is another way to use dark tile in your home. The marble comes in various shades of black and brown and really makes an impact, while also adding an updated look to traditional marble.

The dark marble works particularly well with another of this year’s trends: large tiles. These tiles are measures in feet, not inches, with two feet by four feet a typical starting size. These allow for a variety of design arrangements and are expected to pop up on counters and even furniture. They have the added bonus of requiring less grout, which is particularly appealing when it comes to showers and counters.

Of course, there’s always an option for smaller tiles. Fishscale shapes are on trend this year, creating a lovely scalloped finish along the edges if you choose. These add a bit of whimsy and softness that the more geometric tiles don’t always provide.

Still, if you like traditional square and rectangular tiles, but want more visual interest, hand-painted tiles are a perfect, if sometimes pricey option. They work great as a limited backsplash behind the stove or as a border, so they don’t overwhelm the space or your wallet.

Subway tiles have been hugely popular thanks to their thinner appearance and now many tile makes are going even thinner, with tiles half the width. These are particularly good for creating patterns, either turning them on their side to run vertically instead of horizontally, or by creating herringbone or parquet layouts.

These are just some of the tile trends that are coming out strong this year. You don’t have to incorporate every trend into your homes in Chesterfield VA, but consider some of the possibilities these different tiles offer and how they could add a unique spark to your own design style.
