Step 6. Interior Trim, Exterior Walkways, Driveway and Patio
Your home is starting to look like a real home with the walls up and even the exterior being finished. Now is when you start to put in some of the more decorative details like trim to finish off the installation of the doors and window sills. You’ll also start to see kitchens and bathrooms take shape with the installation of cabinets and vanities, and if you’ve chosen a fireplace, now is when the mantel goes in. Typically, the final coat of paint is also applied inside, and outside you’ll see the patios take shape.

Step 7. Hard Flooring, Countertops, and Exterior Grading

The outside of your home is just as important so the builder will be making sure the grading is properly done to allow for proper drainage away from the home. This is when the yard will start being prepped for any landscaping.

Step 8. Mechanical Trims and Bathroom Fixtures
This is where the electronics are being completed, with the electrical panel finished, and the installation of outlets, switches, light fixtures, and some smarthome technology if you’re including it. This is when the HVAC is installed, as well. Finally, some of the bigger finishing touches in bathrooms and kitchens go in with sinks, faucets, and toilets finally added.

Step 9. Mirrors, Shower Doors, Flooring, Exterior Landscaping
You’re in the home stretch and now it’s just things like mirrors, shower doors, final cleanup, and the installation of carpet at the end to make sure it doesn’t get damaged. Outside, any landscaping will be finished with grass, trees, and shrubs planted where necessary, along with any other planned landscaping. It is during this final finishing stage that a building-code official will do a final inspection to make sure everything is done correctly and will issue a certificate of occupancy. On the off chance any issues are discovered, now is when they will be rectified.

Step 10. Final Walk-Through
Now that the home is complete, inspected, and certified, it’s time for you to take a walk through to make sure everything is as it should be. This is when you as the buyer look at the final finishes and make sure there is no damage to counters, cabinets, carpet, floors, etc., and make sure everything works as it should.
