Your Spring Cleaning Checklist

Now is the time of year when windows are opened, back patios are starting to be used, and your homes in Chesterfield VA are coming out of winter hibernation. That extra sunlight is turning a spotlight on some areas of your home that could use some deeper cleaning. To stop it from feeling overwhelming, we have a checklist that you can use to get all of those areas that often get missed in regular cleaning. Spread it out over a few weekends or split up the tasks among multiple family members and soon you’ll have a sparkling home.

  • Windows and Treatments: All of your windows probably need to be cleaned, inside and out, and that includes shades, blinds, and curtains, as well as the casements and don’t forget the sliding door tracks.
  • Carpets: Hire a professional or rent a carpet cleaner and give all of your carpets and rugs a deep clean. Don’t forget to move big furniture and clean underneath.
  • Lights and Overlooked Surfaces: Now is a good time to dust and clean all of your light fixtures. While you’re at it, clean overlooked spots such as door frames, baseboards, trim, and walls.
  • Update Security: If you haven’t checked recently, now is a good time to put in fresh batteries for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, flashlights, and make sure your fire extinguisher is still good, or purchase one if you don’t have one.
  • Exterior: Give your outdoor furniture a good cleaning so it’s ready to use. You may also want to powerclean the exterior of your home and deck or patio. Make sure gutters are clean, and touch up any paint.
  • Bedrooms: As you start to get rid of layers of winter blankets, be sure to clean them whether you do it yourself or take it to a dry cleaner. Now is also a good time to clean your pillows and mattress pads. You should also flip or rotate your mattress and vacuum it.
  • Bathrooms: Get rid of items that are past their date or not working anymore. Straighten up drawers and linen closets, clean or replace mats and liners, and wash shower curtains.
  • Kitchen: Organize the pantry, clean out cabinets and drawers and put down fresh liner paper, toss expired food items, and clean the fridge, including dusting the coils behind or under it.

Now is the time to make sure everything has a place and to get rid of junk and clutter. It’s a good time to look for new storage solutions, as well, if there are items that don’t have a convenient place. With a bit of elbow grease, your homes in Chesterfield VA will have that new-home look. If you are looking for a new home, this is a great way to get your old home ready to sell, and be sure to contact LifeStyle Home Builders to find your own brand new home.
